 Tha name for this village of Koktebel has Turkic origin (kok-tepe-el) and
means «Lands of blue peaks». Koktebel is a polular resort of south-eastern Crimea and is situated 20 km from Feodosia at
feet of Kara-Dag extinct volcano. From north and west Koktebel is guarded by chines of Uzun-Sirt, Kuchuk-Enishar and Kiik-Atlama.
The founder of this resort was an oculist professor Z.A.Yunge. He bought lands in Koktebel valley in order to turn it
into a blooming resort but had not enough money. This forced him to sell land by small plots. So in the beginning of the XX th
century first dachas appeared here. In 1916 a poet and an artist M.A. Voloshin settled in Koktebel.
 His dacha in course of time turned into an original recreation
home fo people of creative work. In different times his house was visited by many remarkable personalities: A.M.Gorkiy,
A.N.Tolstoy, V.Y.Brusov, V.V. Veresayev, K.A.Trenev, M.A.Bulgakov and many other cultural workers.
M.A.Voloshin gave his house as a gift to the Writers Union. Soon 'Koktebel' House of Arts appeared on its base.
Nowadays the poet house is a Literary and Art Museum where you can see wonderful water-colors of M.A.Voloshin and pictures
of his friend artist K.F.Bogayevskiy.
 Recreation in Koktebel is not only charge of energy for a body but a

'Jazz-Koktebel', 'Mamakabo' Festival.
